Rockway Kennel
Foster
program
How it works
The foster program is a great program for all parties involved. First you have to apply to the program if you believe it is suitable for you and your family. To qualify for this program you must have a safe loving home, be willing to feed the dog a raw diet, and an enclosed area where the dog may be safe when alone. Our primary concern is to have he or she grow up in a loving home. Once you are approved to be a foster family, you will not have to buy the puppy. You will have the responsibility to care for the dog. If you foster a male, you will get him as an 8 week on puppy. Once he is at least a year and a half, he will be vet checked to see if he may qualify to be bred. We will need the male to be at Rockway Kennel to be bred. The male would have to be here for up to 7 days. For the females in the foster program, you will receive them as an 8 week old puppy. they must be about two years old and must have had at minimum, two heat cycles. The females will then be vet checked to see if they may qualify to be bred. Once they are vet checked they will have to be at Rockway Kennel to be bred. It is up to the fostering family if you want to bring her to Rockway Kennels at the beginning of her heat or right after her heat. If you foster a female you are required to inform us when the female is in heat even when she is not going to be bred after that heat cycle. She then returns to the foster family and may remain there until two weeks prior to her expected due date. She will then be returned to her foster family once her puppies are weened at 6 weeks. After he or she is finished in the foster program (around 5 years) the full ownership will be handed over to the foster family at no cost.

Every foster family will be required to sign our contract. If the family does not abide by the contract they will be required to return the dog to Rockway.
